Framework

Grieg Research School in Interdisciplinary Music Studies is a network-based research school set up by Musicnet West institutions in Western Norway and co-ordinated by the University of Bergen.


The seminar is designed for 15-20 candidates, of which 10 will be candidates with a paper. The University of Bergen, Faculty of Humanities, will grant the candidates 2 ECTS credits for participation, 3 credits for participation and presentation, and 5 credits for participation with presentation and approved paper.

The research seminar invites candidates to present PhD work-in-progress from the fields of music education, music therapy, musicology, and music performance. The course is also open for candidates attending The National Norwegian Artistic Research Fellowships Programme. Additionally, the course is open for higher music education staff on research qualification programmes. Senior researchers and supervisors are particularly welcome and may present papers if there is space in the program. Master students and others with interest in the topic can also follow the lectures and discussions, but will not be able to participate with presentations and papers.

The seminar will include keynotes, presentations and discussions, as well as a Preliminary Viva Voce Examination. Keynotes and presenters include Trygve Aasgaard from Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences (music therapy), Jill Halstead from the University of Bergen (musicology), Tiri Bergesen Schei from Bergen University College (music education), Hans Knut Sveen from University of Bergen (artistic research), and others.
